"A Keg Full Of Dynamite", is another collection of early recordings, the time is 1978, and the songs are recorded live from a club in the Georgetown section of Washington D.C., known as "The Keg" (not affiliated with the shitty steak restaurants we all know today). The line up at this period in time was: Bobby Liebling - vocals, Joe Hasselvander - drums, Martin Swaney - bass, Richard Kueht - guitars, and Paul Trowbridge - guitars. According to Joe, the Keg "catered to original music. Lots of bands had cut their teeth there including the Cherry People, the Nighthawks, Link Wray and Rory Gallagher. The usual clientele was made up of street bums, pimps, hookers, drug dealers, strippers, acid heads and space hippies as it was located in the Go-Go Club and Red Light district." This recording is the first authorized representation of Pentagram during the "High Voltage Era". To go along with the nine live tracks, there are two studio cuts, "When The Screams Come" and "Livin' In A Ram's Head" which have been taken from an original test pressing of the 1979 single on High Voltage! Considering the age of this stuff, it sounds pretty good, but if for some reason you think you're gonna get a slick, polished, grade-A, professional recording of the band from 25 years ago, well, get over it, nothing like that exists. All the expected 70s grittiness, groove, and doom is intact, and clearly shows that they had this shit down solid long before most of their fans had ever even heard of them. Pentagram definitely deserves the cult status that has been awarded to them over the last decade.
