BLOOD ISLAND RIDERS – BLOOD ISLAND RIDERS – 2007 (UK) vintage hard rock/stoner rock

It's been a long time coming, but the promise that Blood Island Raiders have shown in grubby venues up and down the UK is realised in glorious fashion here. Students of old school metal and doom, the Raiders construct their songs around riffs that are uniformly enormous and hewn from the moss-covered granite rudiments laid down by Black Sabbath, St Vitus, Trouble, Kyuss and The Obsessed, with the occasional flashes of scolding Wylde-like fret-carnage thrown in for good measure. It's not ground-breaking, but by Odin's frosty beard it sounds phenomenal at maximum volume; a grotesque, rumbling arse-quake of a sound, perfectly paced and thrillingly uncomplicated. At their best, on the swaggering 'Rust' and the dynamic flurry of 'God's Breath is Steel', these black-hearted-die-hards sound as timeless and essential as their heroes.

Debut album from London based band whose live performances and reviews have made them one of the U.K's most hotly tipped metal bands . The sound is classic British metal in the vein of Sabbath. Maiden & UFO with a nod to American outfits suchas Danzig and The Melvins .2005's self financed 5 track EP received great reviews and brought them to the attention of Portisheads Geoff Barrow who promptly signed them to his Invada label. Metal Hammer invcluded the band in their Top tips of 2007 saying "one of the UK's foremost purveyors of lumbering heavy as lead classic metal riffs" whilst Kerrangs 4k live review proclaimed " their new material suggests their debut album will be an absolute belter"
